John-J Anderson

John-J is an author whose work slices deep into the human condition, blending horror, poetry, and raw lived experience. He is the five-star-reviewed mind behind Organ, a visceral journey into biological horror; Digging Graves, a haunting collection of poetry and short stories drawn from his real-life years working as a gravedigger; and Bulldog: Too Many Monsters, a dystopian military horror that blurs the line between the brutal and the surreal.

With over 42 countries stamped into his passport, John-J draws on a global palette of cultures, myths, and human encounters to inform his storytelling. A committed vegan and full-time animal rescuer, he spends his days rehabilitating and rehoming stray and abused dogs—compassion that stands in stark contrast to the darkness he explores in his fiction.

Whether excavating fear or unearthing truth, John-J writes with a voice forged from soil, blood, and hard-earned empathy.

Bulldog and the New Year

Twenty twenty-five is looming, I can see it peering through the window as I hammer away at the closing edits on Bulldog 1 (and secretly plunge my finger tips into Bulldog 2). But what have I got to say about this year, this current dwindling decaying year of 2024 and its behaviours. It was pretty much alright.

How anti-climactic was that answer, ay?

Well I found a job this year in animal care, a dream of mine since I was thinking of becoming a vet. Stepping into that field had blown the hatch wide open, I can now find work comfortably doing what I love while also having the time to write and create in my personal time. Is it less money, of course, but what the fuck am I going to do with money on my death bed. Cant take my bank account with me can I? So I chose the path of contentment and development, happier life means a better world around me to create in and actually make strides to achieve dreams. This world would be a better place if the people I have met, the people how disclosed their dreams with me actually went for them. Get out of the machine and do something you give a shit about.

This was also the year I published and released my first novel, Organ, and shortly after my second book, Digging Graves. Having now sold 80 copies in total, I can officially tick off that dream little John-J had as a kid of becoming an author. However the next phase goes, I have 80 people who have bought my stories to read and enjoy (or read and hate).

Angel arrived in my life this year, having taken a job at an animal rescue centre, I told myself I would not be bringing animals home. Well that lasted a little over a month before I adopted THE most beautiful sweet cat I have ever met, now she is my little couch baby who sits on my lap and purrs as I tap away furiously at these books. Having lost the guinea pigs, her presence has been a welcome soothing relief on a broken heart that needs animals in my life. Angel is doing very well, she is incredibly bonded with my wife, loves a play and has spent the better part of winter snuggled up on the bed with us as we slept. Remember, adopt don't shop.

What went wrong this year? It cant all be good news right.

This was the year I experienced one of the hardest loses of my life, Hero passed away during a procedure attempting to repair his back teeth. Unfortunately it was too much for him in his old age and poor health. I took it hard and still to this day, I struggle to look at photos or videos of either of my guinea boys without feeling that knot in my chest. But all the same, they come with me every day.

What's coming? Ominous music intensifying.

I am just about to release my third book, Bulldog: Too Many Monsters. It is a dystopian horror novella set in an occupied united kingdom. Bulldog 1 follows Frank and Bucket, two men thrown together to survive the nightmarish gauntlet the invaders have created. What monsters will they find inside waiting for them? Find out in January.

Just behind Bulldog 1, Too Many Monsters, I plan of following it swiftly with the sequel. Bulldog 2, Into The Fires, will be following a new group as they too attempt to unravel the secrets powering the invaders. I wont give much more away, but I am truly excited for these two novellas and I cant wait to get them into your hands.

Alongside these TWO books already in the works, I am expecting (don't hold me to this as its already missed two Christmas drops) to release my Christmas horror story. It is currently going by the project name of "Noise About The House" but might/will change before the books finished.

Sooooooo yeah, potentially three more books being released in the new year.

Personally I hope to have some adventures, Angel has been extremely well-behaved in the car and I am thinking of searching for some cat-friendly hotels we can take her too as we explore some weekend trips or road-trips.

Well that's all, enjoy your new years. Buy some of my books and help pay for me spoiling my chubby princess (Angel not my wife) and I hope to see some progress towards a better world in the coming year.

Take care of yourself and stay excited you deplorable scavengers.
