John-J Anderson

John-J is an author whose work slices deep into the human condition, blending horror, poetry, and raw lived experience. He is the five-star-reviewed mind behind Organ, a visceral journey into biological horror; Digging Graves, a haunting collection of poetry and short stories drawn from his real-life years working as a gravedigger; and Bulldog: Too Many Monsters, a dystopian military horror that blurs the line between the brutal and the surreal.

With over 42 countries stamped into his passport, John-J draws on a global palette of cultures, myths, and human encounters to inform his storytelling. A committed vegan and full-time animal rescuer, he spends his days rehabilitating and rehoming stray and abused dogs—compassion that stands in stark contrast to the darkness he explores in his fiction.

Whether excavating fear or unearthing truth, John-J writes with a voice forged from soil, blood, and hard-earned empathy.

Digging Graves and Updates

Should I start each of these blogs with an apology, I seem to forget that this exists every month or so and then the guilt creeps in. Despite knowing that people are likely not watching the airwaves (do people say airwaves in reference to the internet?) in hopes of finding a new post from my blog. I certainly spend enough time screaming into the void on Facebook, BlueSky and TikTok.

I did also make the image for this blog a screenshot of my latest book sitting at number 1 on Amazon. Cheap praise for myself but the world is harsh to independent writers, I will toot my own horn.

Since we last touch down, I have published and had some great success in reception to Digging Graves, my second book. Over 44 copies sold or downloaded through Kindle and despite my initial nerves, it has been widely liked by those who seem to have finally caved and bought into my promises on social media.

Giving you a quick recap; Digging Graves is a collection of short stories, poetry, experiences and real events that I experienced while working at a woodland cemetery. All the stories are true as I experienced them, for the majority they are all taken from my notes and diaries that I wrote at the time I was working in the dreaded woodland resting place of the dead. Its a really solid piece of travel reading or gloomy day consumption for the lovers of dark emotive poems.

Its ghost stories, emo poetry and a real visceral honest look behind the curtain of the shady funeral industry. I will tag along a link to the book at the bottom of this entry but check it out on Amazon and grab it while you can for cheap.

In other news, I sold some more photographs and have been toying with the formula for the next book (or two). I wont give anything away but after sitting down and working out some details for a sequel to Organ, I am very confident that 'Marrow' will be a great addition.

I am feeling slightly driven to keep this momentum going, I have two books that are close to completion. Unnamed projects but two that have been gaining traction but losing my attention in the long run. Work has been work, I do what I do. I love helping the animals, I wish I made slightly more money but what can we do but chase the happiness and keep hold of the reasonable means.

Should I collapse into another book for a month, please forgive my disappearing act. I might resurface on BlueSky with my sporadic updates and some memes that I make while killing time or wracking my brain loose of the block.

Take care and stay honest.
