John-J Anderson

John-J is an author whose work slices deep into the human condition, blending horror, poetry, and raw lived experience. He is the five-star-reviewed mind behind Organ, a visceral journey into biological horror; Digging Graves, a haunting collection of poetry and short stories drawn from his real-life years working as a gravedigger; and Bulldog: Too Many Monsters, a dystopian military horror that blurs the line between the brutal and the surreal.

With over 42 countries stamped into his passport, John-J draws on a global palette of cultures, myths, and human encounters to inform his storytelling. A committed vegan and full-time animal rescuer, he spends his days rehabilitating and rehoming stray and abused dogs—compassion that stands in stark contrast to the darkness he explores in his fiction.

Whether excavating fear or unearthing truth, John-J writes with a voice forged from soil, blood, and hard-earned empathy.

What comes next and where have I been?

What comes next?

I wont lie to you my filthy little lurking shoulder parrots, this first month of the new year 2025 has been testing. Not in the way that a conversation with a moron can be labelled "testing" but more akin to your entire life being reshuffled over the domino effect of a poorly planned schedule. Allow me to be real for a second, I love the tumultuous nature of my life, I adore the reckless nature it takes lurching from one adventure to another and never landing on the sinking cement of a trapped endeavour.

With all that poetic dribble laid out for you, I am leaving my post at the animal sanctuary and moving onto pastures greener, and nearer. Long story short, its been coming, but I had for the most part enjoyed working at the charity. Vast swathes of the people I have met while working there have been kind, good natured and enthusiastic towards animal welfare. It was reassuring after doubting the good will of people for so long. I have had two interviews this week, one at a large animal sanctuary that is essentially the pearly gates for any vegans looking to work in animal care and one at a local dog rescue, within a distance I could comfortably cycle. Its a dream after having a car break down at my current job cause colossal ball ache for my personal and professional life. Fingers and toes crossed, although I wont lie, I am deeply longing for a break to spend time with my little cat and my wife, having been gone for so much of the Guinea pigs lives with us, I would love to have some quality time to just BE  with my two favourite people in the world. Write, love the cat, take long walks and exist as intended.

I planned for these events, never leave yourself without the funds in the bank enough to take breaks. You deserve more than endless monotony and fitting the part a company needs of you. Regain your soul.

Onto the writing business.

Bulldog: Too Many Monsters moved over 100 copies in its first month. I will repeat that for the absolute insanity and disbelief I have experienced from its sales. 100 copies sold. It is now comfortably my highest seller and continues to bring in downloads every week, it has been absolutely incredible to witness something I brought into the world being so enjoyed by so many. My horrifying little baby is out here making others intrigued enough to wander into its dark world.

Organ has been moving copies at a solid pace, slower than I anticipated as I believe that Organ is probably a closer knit story than my others. However with Bulldog being a dystopian horror, I believe it fits neatly into the current trending love the public have for end of the world stories. I am just aiming at this stage for reviews and ratings, that is really something that self-published authors reach for more than anything else. If anyone reading THIS could leave a review, that would be fantastic. It helps.

Closing out.

I have taken a bit of a stumbling break, not prompted by anything planned, more thrust upon me like some unwelcome deviant. But having a moment to step back, see what the detractions are from my happiness and reassess came at the perfect time, my books are moving, my homelife is solid as a turtles shell and my mental health is swimmingly positive.

I have some ideas for some new exciting projects, Bulldog: Into The Fires is a quarter finished and another saucy little nightmarish piece is breathing itself into existence in the background. Keep a keen eye out on my socials (Facebook - for the moment as I look to move from that platform for good - and BlueSky).

I noticed that I tend to write these things with no general idea in mind, it often sinks into waffling nonsense. Brain flushing. Thank you if you stuck around this long.

Go be great people and rise about the hatred, be your best you disgusting little grubby otters!

P.S. Couldn't find any relevant photos so enjoy the thumbnail of my little boy Hero. Miss you everyday little man.
