Buried Alive in the Weight of Productivity

Ignore the lack of updates on this blog, the final bastion of my online presence - this hideous cathedral to my toxic relationship with the online world. I have been absent and that's not for good reasons.

Well that's not entirely true.

I've been working and working hard, in the actual aspect of my life that brings in stable income. Needing to eat and not sleep on the streets will do that to a man. But in all seriousness, it's been tough, works been busy and draining as of late, this ridiculous inferno heat hasn't been helping, and the focus on my writing has taken a steep drop off a cliff.

So....what's been happening with the books?

In short, not much. But what I've managed to accomplish despite this testing time has been worthy of shouting out. 

Digging Graves, my book of poetry and short stories from the years I spent digging graves and burying humans, has had a new cover. It's a small face-lift but feels more general public focused rather than something I would pick up. 

I'm an old soul, my tastes aren't always correct in these matters. 

On top of that, I've formulated a plan for achieving £1k in book sales within the next 3 years. If it works out, I'm a genius, if it fails, I'll blame everything but myself because that's what we aren't allowed to do these days. 

What else....what else.....Oh!

Bulldog 2: Into the Fires, has almost been finalised. I'm in the final 3 chapters and it's really turned into a great dystopian horror focused more on the humanity of the situation as opposed to it's prequel. 

One of the characters it focuses on, Victoria, has become one of my favourites I've written. She's strong and flawed, her journey through the broken United Kingdom Bulldog is set in has been a shameful pleasure to discover. 

I'm currently looking into starting a mailing list, once I've built said mailing list, I can start sourcing some advance readers to get an early sneek preview of the follow up to my second full length novel. If you are interested in joining my ARC team (advanced readers copy) let me know.

I am finding this decision, which platform to use for having a mailing list sign up and landing page, really infuriating. It's a labyrinth of upselling from websites that charge ghoulish prices for the trinkets most big providers offer for free. 

And that's the problem.

I don't need a large platform, but having smaller platforms take the piss feels like a tediously scratchy pill to swallow. How hard is it to have a mailing list and single page without being charged through the nostrils?

I'll figure it out, I always do when it comes to burying my head in the rotten bones of online Web hosting. 

ANYWAY!

I'm calling it. I'm running out of things to talk about and it's 27 degrees in the flat. 

I'm only writing this blog because I'm avoiding do any of what I mentioned above, give me a break, I work for a living.

 Bulldog: Too Many Monsters has been my most successful book release to date. Quickest summary possible for those unfamiliar with the story; its a dystopic military horror set in the United Kingdom after being invaded by an unknown army. Residents are plunged into sick contests to see if they can survive against the mysterious, horrifying, hordes of monsters the invaders have brought with them. That's the elevator pitch anyway.  I came up with the idea after having two dreams back to back that appeared identical, in similar vain as the mini-blurb above. Originally this was intended to be a short story, perhaps a couple of pages, instead this has morphed and oozed itself into a fleshed out series of horror books. The first (Too Many Monsters) has just been temporarily taken off sale while the cover is reimagined in the image I originally envisioned, having sold over 100 copies, it felt like it was slowing down and the right time to get what I dreamt of out of the cover design....

New Life For This Stumbling Corpse

It's a Wednesday, the first in four weeks that I've had off, and guess what I did. I finally landed on that cursed mailing list that has been testing my patience and sanity for weeks. It's done. It's over. The beast of a chore is dead and buried six feet below alongside my aspirations to be a professional wrestler.  Oh, what could have been. I toyed with the ideas of Wix, Squarespace and yadda yadda yadda but none felt right. And if you follow my blogs (because I'm not present anywhere else) you'll know that I often make choices based solely on my gut.  I call it my caveman vibe, if it's off, that hairy ancestor of mine gives me warning and something I don't understand tells me to act.  I'm waffling already. When did Bulldog become the enemy?

I am at the daunting midway point of a break from work. The days have trickled by as I mixed up seeing family, farting about in the local towns, playing Diablo 4 with the wife and finally getting my collective faecal matter together in the writing projects that lingered over my burnt out corpse. After having gone through stage zero of my eleven step plan to push book sales, and ideally become a more active writer and less active marketer, I have tidied up the established novels that I have published. Given them a fresh kick up the backside and turned my attention back to the always present task of finishing the Bulldog sequel (Bulldog 2: And Dead Mouths Open).  With the weight of this tarting up of my old works now complete, I have turned my attention to this unfinished follow up and the always nagging task of getting more visible reviews on Amazon to shift more books. What comes next and where have I been?

What comes next? I wont lie to you my filthy little lurking shoulder parrots, this first month of the new year 2025 has been testing. Not in the way that a conversation with a moron can be labelled "testing" but more akin to your entire life being reshuffled over the domino effect of a poorly planned schedule. Allow me to be real for a second, I love the tumultuous nature of my life, I adore the reckless nature it takes lurching from one adventure to another and never landing on the sinking cement of a trapped endeavour.  With all that poetic dribble laid out for you, I am leaving my post at the animal sanctuary and moving onto pastures greener, and nearer. Long story short, its been coming, but I had for the most part enjoyed working at the charity. What's in a title?

Instead of landing on a finalised name for my latest, and almost completed, short story (currently title Bulldog). I got thinking on what exactly makes a great title. Obviously its natural to look to the greats without feeling even a sense of the underlying reality, that is that even the authors and producers of the iconic backbones of cinema and literature likely struggled all the same. Now this blog entry isn't at all a massive time wasting distraction from my actual editing work, in fact it might actually turn into a side quest that could lead to a name suddenly appearing on the screen! Jaws, Star Wars, IT, Misery, The Shining, Hunger Games, Frankenstein, Dracula and Dune stick out as the absolute best titles in recent and distant memory. Naturally you would want something punchy, timeless and a word/phrase that will encapsulate and visualise your entire premise to the reader perusing your book cover at the store (and by store I obviously mean online).  When it came to naming my...
