I Just Popped In.
Checking in for a catch-up and another rambling journal about my goings on behind the stories. I know I haven't been updating the site with anything beyond actual stories for you to read - how unfortunate that you haven't had the chance to listen to me waffle for a while - so lets get into the latest nonsense shall we.
If you had a chance to start reading the Organ chapters that are being released regularly now on the site, you should. They are being put out chapter by chapter and at the end I will have a little summary to discuss my feelings, thoughts and memories from writing Organ. I liked setting this up as bitesize chapters, they are essentially one page lunchtime/spare time passages that you can get through weekly (or daily if you are keen) and enjoy the first book I ever fully completed, published and held in my hands.
I don't have any socials apart from a Facebook account for work purposes, but I would love to hear any feedback from those reading the chapters weekly. Its exciting as an indie writer having people care about your characters and stories, let me know what you think/thought on Facebook for the time being.
Little side note: If you click on any of the chapters, you can scroll to the bottom and click the "Organ" label, it will take you to the rest of them a bit easier.
Moving away from Organ, I noticed that my short story titled "A Brief Account of an Unfortunate Packet of Crisps" has done really well. Something like 36 views already, thanks to anyone who gave that weird short story a read. Again let me know what you thought, I don't often write short fiction but it was an idea wriggling around in my head for a solid week, so I decided to get it out onto the page. Here is the link if you haven't read it, again completely free:
Update on Angel
I feel the need to keep reminding everyone, but Angel was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease. It means that she will be passing away withing the next year or so if the vets estimation is accurate, we could obviously have longer depending on her health but we are just taking it as it comes - we are already more than lucky to have her around, everyday is a gift.
Angel is responding really well to the fluid injections and her medicine routine, no longer fights to get away from the needle and plops like a little tired duckling when its time for her nightly subcutaneous fluid dose. Even more exciting, she is now pooping on her own without medical intervention, we have had two solid poops since her last vet visit and thanks to the constant hydration she receives, we are seeing her bounce back into little fits of play and talkative conversations. She is doing well for the time being and that is all we could ask for.
You heard me ramble weeks back about streaming services and physical media, well I have fallen head first since into the exciting world of building a physical media collection for at home - no subscription required - entertainment. I have been dipping into local charity shops and scouring their DVD bins for movies that I love and could watch more than once, it has been a nice distraction from a hard few months to start curating my own at home library of cinema that we can enjoy for years to come.
I sold the PS5, for a few reasons but it was made a significantly easier choice once they decided I would need to constantly check in online to play my own OFFLINE games and also send them proof of my face, credit card and ID to voice chat. In a world that is constantly trying to narrow our freedoms, lurk around our personal lives and slither into every free moment we can find - I didn't need a gaming console sitting their idling as a brick because I wont give some greedy disgusting company access to my personal information to play Power Wash Simulator. Instead I dusted off my old PS2 and dug out the games to go alongside it, set up a small TV and can now play games from my childhood without ads, internet or virtual currency. Fuck you Sony, you deserve all the backlash.
The UK
Buckle up, I will almost definitely lose my head shortly. I was going to save this for a separate article, something detailing my thoughts and feeling on the state of my country after the recent local elections. Between Reform gaining seats and Labour agreeing with the Tories in letting Palantir have access to our NHS data - I have been battling a sense of anger that I haven't felt since Brexit was passed by the same gullible fools that expect Reform to "save the country".
Lets get some facts out the way that I don't need to repeat. Labour have lowered immigration more than any party in the last 15 years, the Tories have fled to hide under the new flag of Reform in droves, Reform have gained massive ground in the UK as the country is more divided than ever politically. I was disappointed with Brexit, I was sad that the EU would look at us and believe we are abandoning them. This time around I am just angry. I am angry that vulnerable people who spend far too much time on social media are being convinced that foreign people coming to our country are the reason their life is worse. I am angry that Reform councillors are being held to a lower standard by both the law and the media than those of the other parties (See the Reform councillors calling to "Shoot the P*kis" or "Melt down the Nigerians to fill pot holes").
Okay, I will stop shouting at clouds. But let me end this little rant by saying that I believe unchecked levels of immigration are never sustainable, we need stricter and more eagerly enforced controls for those coming to the country through illegal/dangerous means. HOWEVER. The rhetoric and language being used by people elected to serve whole communities of diverse families is disgraceful and utterly un-British. Politics has been turned into a team sport and we are all falling for it.
Remember that the reason your life costs more than it did last decade is because we have 1% of people in the UK holding 99% of the wealth.
And breath....
I thought I might lose my head for a moment, I kind of did but it was good to get that off my chest.
Lets wrap this up before I write an essay.
Read the Organ chapters and watch the site, they are being released every day and sometimes two chapters a day. If they aren't your style, maybe give the short story about the Brief Account of an Unfortunate Crisp a read, should be a lighter and less unsettling experience. I am loving the freedom of writing to just write, after deciding to leave Amazon in the rear view mirror, this has been a less depressing mode of expression.
Until next time, keep your ear lobes away from the toaster and watch for the buzzards, you creepy dancing dandelions.
