Sweating Bullets
It is hot. Let's get that out of the way, it is 32 degrees in parts of the UK and our country isn't built for it. Yes, I am boiling in my skin, and yes, this is worrying for the future summers (is it even summer yet?) as the temp continues to climb. Now lets stop talking about the fucking sun.
Chapter 19 of Organ is available on the site for free, we are heading towards the final third of the book and I can see that the numbers are dwindling but steady. Just from views alone I can see that at least five people are religiously reading this book when the next chapter comes out, its pleasing to see some folks enjoying my writing. After this is finished I will be moving onto formatting and updating Bulldog 1 for the website, so stick around for more free daily stories. If you haven't already, check out Release and the short crisp sci-fi story I published on the site.
Every company online today wants to sell you something, or turn you into a product to sell to advertisers/data miners. Here you wont be sold anything and I will never ask for a penny, enjoy it while I can afford it.
Rescue
Kennel work in this weather is brutal - I know I said I wont talk about the sun again but its relevant. We do our best to get in earlier, walk dogs before the worst of the heat, get them all cooled down with mats/bandanas and paddling pools before clocking out for the day and praying the temperature eases up for the poor boys and girls.
This week we have had some great news in terms of rescues; Jewel, one of our long termers, has finally been rehomed and fingers crossed the beautiful girl sticks it out. We also have potentially four other dogs (some long timers and some short) on their way out or having their first real visits with families. This does feel like the tide is turning and we are finally getting somewhere with the rehoming figures, it has been a little tough for a while with some unfortunate returns and some quiet periods. Something has changed, in the air something feels more alive and I think that's a change of fortunes for the rescue.
Writing
I put pen to paper, or finger to keyboard, finally and got another chapter done for the Bulldog series closing book. Slow progress, but after taking a break to get the site in clean order and writing a mini story to shake my brain up, it felt rewarding to have finally got some rubber under my wheels in regards to this slow burning finale.
Amazon are suddenly peppering me with emails about advertising my books, discounts on certain ads and "how to sell more with KDP" crap. I guess they clocked that all my books are being discontinued with their site and they don't like writers leaving, but at least they have the millions of people uploading AI written slop romance stories. I would encourage whoever I can to stop using them, they are creating a poisonous monopoly in the writing industry, even as a small time indie-author, they have created terrible avenues for con-artists and lazy "side-hustle" AI utilising "writers" to slam out hundreds of books a year while the rest of us manage one or two.
Any other business.
Angel is doing really well, suffering in the heat a little but the fluids, her love of water fountains and the cool mat making an early appearance seem to be helping her some. Her kidney disease isn't progressing at any rate we should consider alarming and in a few months she is due a check-up for bloods and urine, we keep her comfortable and happy until then. It is a weird feeling, I was accepting of the circumstances when I got the news about her disease and the prognosis that she likely has months and not years left to live. With every passing day however I feel myself expecting her to last longer and longer, it will fucking break me when she passes but I am just lucky to have any time left with her at all. I know many people don't get that with their pets upon horrible medical developments.
I love this cat and I will do everything I can to enjoy my time with her. Love your pets people, they are the absolute purest form of joy we can find in life.
Alright, lets close out for the afternoon. I haven't been up to much else, work and Angel have been pretty all consuming lately and the car snatched away a whole day off I had this week. I watched Fargo this morning to trick my brain into thinking it was cooler outside than it was - I spoke about the weather again, we Brits genuinely cant not bring up the weather.
Keep your sandals nice and wet, pick up your litter and keep your shitty children out of trouble. Until next time, you saucy beasts.
