I Saw Giants - Poem
I Saw Giants
I was a child, maybe even a toddler.
My great-grandad sat me down to watch his favourites.
Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy, monsters of men that defied
my imagination.
Mountains of muscle and aggression clashing in sweat for a
strap of gold.
Black and white visions of a squared circle.
Of a cheering crowd with every slam and drop.
Of favourites from hometowns and vilified cheats of contest.
Kings of the rings that become an addiction.
It was here that my fascination began.
With my great-grandad watching his wrestling tapes on VHS.
Listening to his stories of his favourites.
That could have been 30 years ago.
I think I’ll go watch some wrestling.
