Changing Things Up.
I am pressed for time today as I planned on getting the second draft of my latest short story finished up, so let me dive straight into the thick slimy broth of my goings on. The Shining is playing in the background as I write this, Jack has just strolled into the hotel for the first time and I felt that ominous familiar feeling all over again. I love the silent moutning fear in this film, I loved the coldness of the book, anyway I have distracted myself already. Lets get into it.
You might have noticed a sudden change in the website, this was intentional unlike the last time when I got far too cocky with the code and broke everything. After some deep introspection over a few days in which I recorded my ideas onto my phone, played them back to myself and argued with each point, I have decided to alter the way in which the site is structured. Before the most recent changes, the site hosted all the chapters of my books, after the changes (currently) the site will hold only the first chapters of my books as "Samplers" for the full novels. This might be a bit dissapointing but as I said, I did some thinking about where I want to go with my writing career and came to some conclusions.
The first being that I no longer wish to undervalue my own work, the stories I have written are important to me and I beleive they deserve to be treated as such. That sadly means they will no longer be available entirely free, some snippets will be posted here for taste testing them with my audience, but the rest iwll be locked behind whatever publisher I can convince to take me on in the future.
The second conclusion reached was that I want to finally take the plunge and try to get traditionally published, in the past I have been self-published and hosted on Amazon/Kobo/Apple stores and some European book stores online. But! I want to achieve something that has been in the back of my mind since I started writing my stories with a wider audience in mind. Amazon and KDP was an experiment that failed to becoe anything more than experience. Now begins the long dark struggle to get into the dragons cave of traditional publishing, wish me luck.
While this might make the site feel "lighter" in terms of content for long form reading, I plan on keeping all of my poetry, journal entries and some short stories available entirely free on the blog. I have ideas about writing essays and some longer opinion pieces on current events, the writing world and other interest for the blog, so I can promise the site wont be left in the dust. I think now is the time I take my writing seriously and make a push to become something I have dreamt of since childhood, a traditionally published author who can see his books on a shelf on the highstreet.
That is all for now, lets get down to the grind together (that sounded dirtier than I intended) and put some work into this thing. Stay curious and remember to flip your pancakes, you feathery demons.
